TOMATO FESTIVAL BUÑOL

Talking of sumer holidays in Spain, one event that springs to mind is La Tomatina – which has got to rank highly as one of the wierdest fiestas in Spain. It happens in Buñol in August and can only be defined as irredeemably and joyously wacky!

In fact, La Tomatina has emerged over recent years as a must-see fiesta in Spain, much the same as the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Certainly, as this article makes clear, to be involved in the biggest tomato fight in the world is probably worth doing – if for no better reason than that it should amuse your future grandchildren for years to come!

Certainly, the tomato festival in Buñol must appeal to the ‘children’ in all of us. Just imagine – tons of rotten tomatoes and complete freedom to hurl them at everyone around you. Terrific fun and one that must be the ultimate in stress relief!

So, if you are thinking of having your summer holidays in Spain in August, somewhere reasonably close to the Valencia area, then set aside the day. Go to Buñol for La Tomatina and be a part of the tomato fight – with some 30,000 other people!!

Mind you, I cannot promise you that I will be there – or, if I am, I suspect that I shall be watching La Tomatina from a high and very safe vantage point, long beyond the reach of the most hardy thrower!
